Like Honey unfortunately fell into a class of romances that are all too common adorable concept and characters that could have been amazing, but in the end fall flat and don t meet expectations We start off with what could be the sort of romance that I m actually a pretty big sucker for a widow who s struggling to run a business on her own, trying to put her life back together This was the part of the blurb that drew me in I adore stories that touch on the bittersweet joy of finding true love again What I got, though, was a book full full of stilted, awkward writing, withthan a few scenes that were either downright disturbing or just threw off the track of the book The chapter transitions are very awkward, andthan once made me grimace because they made me pause in the flow of my reading For example, one chapter ends like thisWhat stood before him was astounding Sounds pretty good, r Grayson has a little obsessions with a es and Jennifer s in particular, he liked her a Heart shaped, firm looking, with just a bit of a sexy jiggle I mean the boy really enjoys her a , he turned her over I just want to see that a , he said She had no choice but to comply She was a simmering mess under his skilled hands Compliant He ran them up and down her back and then to her firm a Soft skin beneath his calloused hands Yes, he said So perfect I mean the girl gets a thrill when her man is home, his hands moved all over her, as her legs held him closer Skin on skin Breath on her neck She arched against him and almost purred Mmmmmm, she said You re home I mean Gray can voice his feelings which is always a good thing in a relationship, oh, that, it s um, really hard for me to concentrate about anything when yo I requested this title on NetGalley, and never really expected to be granted early access but I am OH SO Glad that I did Liz Everly has a wonderfully written, evocative story that is full of honey and bees and redolent with the Scottish countryside Jennifer was widowed after a short marriage, and now finds herself managing her dead husband s family business a honey farm Completely unprepared for both life as it has twisted, and learning slowly about beekeeping as she is struggling to pay bills, she still hasn t really dealt with her losses, merely struggling to put one foot in front of the other and make the business and the estate desirable for a buyer Jennifer s farm and business are under watch however, and Grayson is the agent sent to ferret out the possible drugs and China connections to the D Amato Honey Farm Gray c FIVE STARS Like Honey opens with a romantic scene of flashing colors in a candlelit ballroom and men in kilts at the Mead Makers Masked Ball Who wouldn t love that Widow, Jennifer D Amico is struggling to emerge from her grief over the loss of her husband, Ren, who was killed two months after their marriage At the ball she has taken notice of a mysterious man in a leafy green mask, and she finds her dormant desires awakening A kiss in a moonlit Scottish garden takes Jennifer out of herself as the snow falls around them She and the mystery man are interrupted before they can consummate their tryst much to the frustration of both. Jennifer is overwhelmed by living in a drafty one hundred year old stone farmhouse and the responsibilities of trying to save the failing honey farm she inherited from her husband The Like Honey is part of the Saffron Series and although I have not read any of those books, I must say I really like this book and will go back and read the others The research that went into this book on beekeeping and honey blew me away I had no idea it was such an intricate process and I love being able to read a book where I learn a little about a subject Now, the book was hot It was very well written and I loved Jennifer and Grayson These two meet as Jennifer is trying to learn the beekeeping business which she inherited from her late husband Grayson is an agent who is watching her because of suspicious activity in the sales of the honey He is convinced that Jennifer is innocent and wants to prove that He actually grew up learning the beekeeping business how convenient Hot Would you like to take a wild ride to Scotland Silly question This particular hot and wild ride revolves around a pair of ex pat Americans, so the reader doesn t have to put up with Scots speak writing, which can make for stop and go reading at best Auch aye Happily, Liz Everly still gives the reader a rich sense of the rugged beauty that is Scotland, as her heroine, Jennifer D Amico, tries to save the honey business build by her late husband s family But there is something odd going on, and when bee expert and undercover Homeland Security agent, Grayson McGhilly shows up and offers to help her out, she is forced to trust a man she knows nothing about Mystery, murder and danger lurk around every corner, and the story will keep you pinned to your reading perch until the final page is turned Well done.
